It is that time of year when the championship matches for the seniors
take centre stage. Father Shileds of Greencastle hosted Eire Og on
Sunday morning in the Junior section of the competition. The game was
played in great spirit before Eire Og ran out the eventual winners by a
score line of 4:4 to the visitors to Father Shields 1:6. The result
does mean however that Father Shields have to win their next match
against Edendork on August 15th if they are to stay in the round robin
competition.
The Intermediate championship will see Doiretreasc play Dungannon and Brocach play Derrylaughan on August 15th.
There was training on Saturday past for the Tyrone under 14’s in
Edendork. The training had an excellent turnout of over 30 players and
that now means that Tyrone can enter two teams in the Ulster Blitz to
be held in Down on Saturday 11th. This year will see the entrants of
the Ulster Blitz get a chance to play in the inaugural All Ireland
Blitz which will be held in Croke Park later in the year. We wish the
young camogs every success on Saturday and hope they go one better than
last year’s team who were narrowly beaten by a solitary point in the
final.
There were wins in mid week in the senior league for Derrylaughan and
Doiretreasc. There will be post primary, minor and under 14 fixtures
all next week in what is a busy period for camogie in Tyrone.
There was a players meeting in Eglish last week to discuss the senior
championship and league campaign. The meeting was well attended and
there were lots of excellent points raised in relation to next year’s
campaign. A massive thanks to all who attended and put their views
across in a very constructive meeting.
The dates for the next Go Games blitzes have been set and Doiretreasc
will host one on Saturday 18th August at 9:15am. Derrylaughan will host
the final Blitz of the year on 1st September at 9:15am. All clubs are
reminded of the importance of the Blitzes and the great amount of work
that goes into hosting the events. All clubs should send as many
players as possible as it is a chance for the youngest in our clubs to
show their skills. Parents are welcome to stay and enjoy the morning
sessions.
The next County Board meeting will be on 13th August at 7:15 in Quinns
Corner. At least two members from each club must attend the meetings.
