Carrickmore’s Munroe wins at National She’s Ace weekend

Carrickmore’s rising young ladies handball star, Clodagh Munroe, travelled to Breaffy Sports Arena at the weekend with a host of other Tyrone ladies handballers for the much vaunted annual ‘She’s Ace National Handball Weekend’. Following a terrific weekend of handball in Mayo, Clodagh emerged as the only winner from the O’Neill County when coming out on top in the One Wall Girls 11 & Under event on Sunday at the Breaffy complex, defeating Sadhbh Ní Fhlaithearta of Galway in the final. Breacach’s Eilise McCrory was strongly fancied in a very competitive Girls 17 & Under grade but lost out at the final hurdle against Clare’s highly regarded teenager, Doireann Murphy, in the final in a tie-break. In the promotional fun event, the Mother & Daughter division, Carrickmore’s Cathy and Ciara Mullan made it into the 2015 final where they lost out to Aine and Eimear Ní Bhiadhi of Galway.

Tyrone GAA Handball AGM reflect on record year of success

The annual Tyrone GAA Handball AGM went ahead in Beragh at the weekend and the delegates heard the report which statistically showed a record year for the county on the courts of play at provincial, national and international level. Chairman Paul Allison reflected on a remarkable year for the county and expressed his belief that the record haul of 36 individual All Ireland Championship winners and 46 platers from the county to have competed in All Ireland level told its very clear story of the work going in at club and county level.

“There is no doubt that our coaches and clubs are continuing to put in a major effort and this is now being rewarded with massive successes across the codes of the game. With the World Championships coming up in August 2015 we must continue to put in this effort to maintain our place at the top of the national ranking lists,” commented the Carrickmore man. “I do believe that the huge success of our revitalised leagues and championships in the county is playing a vital role in that success and it is great to see our numbers for the current championships crossing the 200 mark”.
