Launch Of “Friends Of Cathal”

This coming Friday night, 29^th June, sees the launch of a charitable cycle event ‘Friends of Cathal’ to commemorate Cathal McLaughlin who passed away on 12^th Oct 2011. The event, which is to take place on Sunday 26^th August, has been organised by family and friends of Cathal as a way of remembering and celebrating all that he did in his community.

Cathal built his life around family, friends and his community. He unselfishly gave up his time to aid others in many different ways within the parish of Drumragh and further afield, no job too big or small. He was never one to shy away from a challenge and had a love of all sports, with a particular love of all GAA activities within the parish of Drumragh. The event itself encourages the communities of Drumragh, Omagh and surrounding communities in Tyrone and further afield, cyclists, people with an interest in a new past time, and as the title suggests, ‘Friends of Cathal’ to take part and build our sense of community in memory of Cathal.

The event itself is suited to all ages and abilities and encourages cyclists to participate either by doing 30 mile or 60 mile routes or a 5 mile fun cycle/walk. Drumragh spokesman Brian Campbell stated, ‘Cathal was involved in everything within Drumragh and it is fitting that we repay the compliment in small way and remember Cathal in a fond way.’

All proceeds will be going to Muscular Dystrophy, a charity close to Cathal’s heart, and the High Dependency Unit in Altnagelvin Hospital. We ask that anyone who fancies a challenge or wishes to contribute to a very worthy cause to come along on Friday night at 8pm to Drumragh GAA clubrooms, Clanabogan, Omagh. Tea and refreshments will be available on the night.

You will also have the opportunity to register on the night. Registration is £20 and all cyclists are asked to raise £40 in sponsorship.  Each participant will then receive a unique cycle event jersey which will be on display at the Launch.
