The 2018 Paul McGirr U16 Club Champions Tournament will be launched this Friday evening in Garvaghy at 8:00.

This tournament has grown to be probably the premier youth club football tournament in the GAA calendar, with the live broadcast over Facebook of last year’s showcase final between Kilcoo and Crossmaglen having viewing numbers in excess of 13,000 people.

The county champions from all 9 Ulster counties are represented and this year’s participants include Burren (Down), Lavey (Derry), Madden (Armagh), Donaghmoyne (Monaghan), Newtownbutler (Fermanagh), Gowna (Cavan), Termon (Donegal) and St. Galls (Antrim). The Tyrone championship is currently at the semi final stage so their winners will be known in the next two weeks.

The tournament showcases some of the best underage talent in Ulster with many current Inter County stars having taken part in it for their clubs in the past. All proceeds from the tournament as usual go to The Spirit Of Paul McGirr Foundation who are doing wonderful work for the less fortunate children of Lusaka in Zambia.

You can view some of this great work on www.spiritofpaulmcgirr.org.

The principal sponsors for this year’s tournament are MFC Sports and specially commissioned trophies by The Crosshill Gallery Omagh will be presented to the Man Of the Match in each game. The medals for the winners and runners up are once again sponsored by the Tyrone Association in Dublin.

The tournament will get underway with the preliminary round in Gardrum Park Dromore on Saturday 25th October.  An added bonus for the 2018 participants will be that the commentary for this year’s final which will be broadcast live will be provided by the legendary Michael O’Muircheartaigh.
