Moortown eased their way through to the last eight of the LCC Intermediate championship with an impressive display against Aghaloo in Stewartstown on Friday night. The St.Malachys were out of the traps well with points from Ryan Kelly, Shaun Conway and Peter Devlin before Aghaloo closed the gap thanks to efforts from Padraig McGeary and Niall McElroy. In the 21st minute Moortown midfielder Tarlach Quinn blasted in a brilliant goal and the winners never looked back. Karl Hagan tagged on an outstanding point with Kelly splitting the posts again to give his side a 1-7 to 0-3 interval advantage.
The third quarter produced only two points, one for each side with Blaine Ryan and McElroy the marksmen. McElroy then reduced the deficit in the 51st minute but that proved to be Aghaloo’s last score of the night. Despite going down to fourteen men due to a black card it was Moortown who finished the stronger with the help of points from Shea Lawn, Ryan and Kelly as they set up a quarter final meeting with either Stewartstown or Kildress.
