LCC Championship Wins For Owen Roes And Errigal

Owen Roes produced a superb team performance as they saw off the challenge of Stewartstown at Omagh on Friday night. Inspired by key man Cathal Mc Shane, who hit ten points, they eased to a 0-17 to 1-6 win after a very commanding display.

The north Tyrone side were quick to settle in this LCC Intermediate Championship first round clash. They hit ten first half points and restricted Stewartstown to 0-2 over the course of that first half hour. A point straight after the restart from Mc Shane set the tone for the remainder of the contest.

Gareth Devlin hit a goal and a point to narrow the gap for the Harps after the break but Owen Roes continued to dominate and Mc Shane hit three further points before Stewartstown lost key forward Dan Lowe to a black card midway through the second half.

Any chance Stewartstown had disappeared with that decision and in spite of the best efforts of Paul Dillon, Peter Armour and Niall Dillon, Owen Roes eased to victory with fine displays from Seamus Dooher, Connor  Donaghy, Brendan Boggs, Damian Mc Crossan, Ryan Mc Aleer and Tony Devine.

The second game was a much tighter affair as Eglish made Errigal Ciaran fight all the way for their place in the quarter finals before the pre match favourites  emerged 0-15 to 1-8 winners.

Early points from Peter Harte, Aidan Mc Crory, Ronan Mc Rory and Stefan Tierney gave Errigal the perfect start but the Dunmoyle men were rocked back on their heels when a superb piece of skill from Ethan Jordan created a goal scoring chance which was seized upon by Seamus Muldoon.

That brought the game level 1-1 to 0-4 and Eglish then missed a brace of chances to go in front. Errigal made them pay when they hit seven points unanswered before half time to go in at the break leading 0-11 to 1-1. Pauric Mc Anenly, Darren Canavan, Peter Harte and Aidan Mc Crory were on target for their side.

Eglish came out after the break in determined mood and made life difficult for the Errigal men at times. They restricted their opponents to four second half points while hitting seven of their own. Darragh Canavan landed a couple of real beauts for Errigal at key times during the second half and was denied a certain goal when foiled by the outstanding Kevin Muldoon. Ethan Jordan and Seamus Muldoon were on target for the Eglish men who also managed to create several half chances of goals but in truth the well organised Errigal defence in which Ciaran Quinn, Aidan Mc Crory, Peter O’Hanlon, Cormac Quinn and Niall Kelly were very impressive, dealt with all that was thrown at them.

Errigal will be delighted to be through to the quarters and will learn lessons from Friday night’s game while Eglish will look back at a decent performance tinged with regret that they didn’t go for it earlier in the game. Fullback Kevin Muldoon was superb for the men in black as were Ciaran Donnelly, Pauric Martin, Paul Mason, Dillon Horsfield, Ethan Jordan and Emmett Mc Kenna.

Final score: Errigal Ciaran 0-15, Eglish 1-8.
