The LCC Junior Championship got underway at the home of Fintona Pearses on Friday evening and resulted in convincing wins for pre match favourites Aghaloo and Drumragh.

First up was Aghaloo who produced a superb showing to defeat Drumquin 6-15 to 0-13. Niall Mc Elroy and Jody Mc Glone were in outstanding scoring form hitting 4-8 between them as the O’Neills coasted through to the first round proper and a clash with Rock. Rory Mc Glone and Niall Henderson also hit goals for the winners.

Drumquin will regret their ponderous start to the game that saw them reach the break trailing 2-11 to 0-7. Mattie Mc Dermott top scored for the Wolfe Tones with 0-7 while Sean Mc Donagh and Oisin Mc Menamin were also among the points on a night when very little went right for Noel Donnelly’s team.

Drumragh were expected to cruise into the quarter finals but found their first round opponents Killyman a real handful for the opening thirty minutes.

The Sarsfields looked reasonably composed early on as they coped with everything Killyman threw at them. Points from Shane Cleary, Shane Devine and Aaron Montgomery helped them move ahead midway through the first half. However they were rocked back on their heels when two converted Éamon Donnelly penalties sent the East Tyrone men in leading by one at the break 2-4 to 0-9.

Drumragh were a different side after the break. Shane Devine got them back on track with 1-1 in the first five minutes of the half and they scored at will throughout the second period.

When Montgomery score his second point of the game the Sarsfields moved eight clear with seven minutes remaining. Killyman were reduced to thirteen men before the end and Tommy Mullin and Shane Cleary added further goals to ease to a 3-16 to 2-5 win.
