Naomh Eoghan 2-13 Gortin 1-14

League champions Naomh Eoghan made history at Killyclogher on Sunday afternoon when they held off a Gortin comeback to record the club’s first ever championship win at adult level.

It was Gortin though who dictated things early on as they were out of the traps quickly. Lucas McGarvey, Caolan O’Hagan and Liam Og Mossey all landed points before the latter capitalised on a mistake in the Naomh Eoghan defence to find the net in the 7^th minute for a 13 to 0-0 lead. It was just the start that they would have been hoping for but Naomh Eoghan didn’t panic and for the next twenty five minutes until halftime they outscored their opponents 1-10 to 0-2.

Ryan Mayse got them up and running and further points came from Tiarnan Mayse, Conor Traynor, Eoin Devine, Ryan Mayse again and Aidan McSorley to leave it all square by the 23^rd minute, O’Hagan with Gortin’s sole response. McSorley then edged the favourites in front only for Odhran Brolly to quickly equalise. Naomh Eoghan though had their tails up and points from Ryan Mayse and McSorley had them two in front before Shae Gallagher blasted in an outstanding goal to the top right hand corner of the net with the last kick of the half to leave it 1-10 to 1-5.

A free from McGarvey opened the second half scoring but in the 34^th minute Naomh Eoghan took a firm grip on proceedings when GO POWER man of the match Michael Coreless burst through to fire an unstoppable shot to the net for another brilliant goal. Full forward Tiarnan Mayse tagged on a point and the winners looked to be in complete control leading 2-11 to 1-6.

Fiachra McNulty got a Gortin score and Mossey gave them another timely boost with an outstanding two pointer. Devine and Mossey traded points before the latter was wide with a goal chance. Tiarnan Mayse had another point but Gortin were proving difficult to put away with Mossey to the fore. He knocked over a free and a wonderful effort from play before raising another orange flag from a placed ball to cut the gap to two going into injury time.
