League Wins For Derg And Fintona
Friday 21.06.2019
Castlederg hosted Killeeshil in the All County League Division Three on Friday night and after a very hard fought game between two well balanced sides the north Tyrone outfit prevailed on a 1-13 to 0-13 score line.
Paudge Quinn’s young side were hugely impressive in the opening half with Tomas Hoy, Jason Doyle and Ciaran O’Neill all on target as they raced into a six-two lead after twelve minutes.
The Derg were struggling to keep with the pace of their opponents but points from Paddy Lynch, Mark Corry and Tony Mc Glinchey plus a goal on the stroke of half time from Darren Traynor after a fantastic pass from Paddy Lynch sent the home team in at the break leading 1-6 to 0-8.
The second half was a close fought keenly contested affair where both sides enjoyed periods of superiority. The Derg outscored Killeeshil seven points to six with Corry, Lynch and Caolan Harvey on target for the winners. Liam Hughes and Daniel Millar pointed to keep their side in it but in spite of the best efforts of Hoy, O’Neill and Aaronn Mc Kenna Killeeshil could not manufacture the goal they needed to tie the game and Castlederg held on for the win.
Fintona and CNG produced a high scoring game that went to the wire with the Pearses holding out for a 2-15 to 1-14 win.
CNG had chances late in the game to snatch a draw but a lack of composure in front of the goals cost them in the end.
The sides were tied a 1-7 apiece at the break after Nathan Deane hit the net on the stroke of half time for the winners but Fintona were sharper in the scoring zone after the break and that proved the difference. Cathal Starrs (1-2), Nathan Deane (1-2) and Sonny Mc Donagh (0-7) top scored for the Pearses.
Danny Ball led the scoring returns for the north Tyrone outfit with six points while Gareth Mc Dermott (4) and Niall Kerlin (3) shared hit seven points between them. Cathal Mc Gill was on target for the CNG goal.
