Loughmacrory’s Gary McAleer has today been announced as the Junior Sports Personality of the year in the Fermanagh and Omagh Sports awards for 2019.
The young Loughmacrory handball club star celebrated a phenomenal run of form last season and his latest accolade is well deserved considering he captured an incredible five national handball titles in 2019 as well as many other sporting accolades, including 3 Tyrone GAA Football titles – Under 14 Grade 1 FL and Under 16 Grade 2 Championship and league with Loughmacrory. Those honours also saw Gary pick up the Teamtalkmag Young Handballer of the Year at the annual All star awards banquet.
Gary was one of six talented nominees and was eventually chosen as the joint recipient of this prestigious honour. The presentation night had to be cancelled back in March due to the covid lockdown. It has been a very quiet year in 2020 on the GAA Handball courts with high hopes that a significant return to action will happen in January 2021 with Gary amongst a host of young Tyrone players expected to make a big impact again on the all Ireland stage when things do get back underway.
