Loch Lads Have That Sinking Feeling.

They say a week is a long time in politics but that old saying can equally apply to football. This time last week the Gaels of Loughmacrory had managed to avoid automatic relegation to Junior Football by beating Urney in their last league fixture. On that same night the club celebrated with a Gala Evening to mark the fortieth anniversary of the club’s inception. The mood around the event and among the club members was very positive and having secured home advantage in the playoff game confidence was high that the team would still be playing Intermediate football in 2013.
Unfortunately they came up short against a Micky Murphy inspired Galbally side that produced one of their best and most committed performances of the season. The Pearses may have been without several of their key players but their deserved victory was all about hard work, commitment and hunger. Loughmacrory will be wondering just how it all went wrong for a side who just two short years ago were on the cusp of senior football. The St Teresas have lots of talented players but they will find that Junior Football is no picnic and an immediate return to the higher division will have to be earned. As for Galbally they have a fortnight to prepare for their final game of the season and will be hoping Micky Murphy, Ciaran Mac Rory, Martin Brannigan and Terry Donnelly can stay injury free and maintain the hunger and drive to see off the winners of the Fintona v Brocagh clash.
