Loreto Convent Omagh’s hopes of gaining revenge for last year’s All Ireland Under 20 Grade A Final defeat to St Leo’s Carlow were well and truly shattered at Drogheda today when they suffered a heavy 5-9 to 1-4 defeat. The Carlow side were big, strong and physical and they used their physicality to great advantage. It took the Omagh girls sixteen minutes to open their account with a point from Teri Mc Cusker but even by that stage the gulf between the teams was evident.A missed Eva Hicks penalty late in the first half did not help Loreto either and at half time St Leo’s were comfortably ahead 2-5 to 0-2.
The second half continued in a similar vein and although Loreto managed to get a goal back through Ciara Mc Mahon the Carlow girls ensured there would be no repeat of last year’s nervy ending and won convincingly by seventeen points in the end. Scorers for Loreto on the day were Ciara Mc Mahon 1-0, Eva Hicks 0-2, Nicola Donnelly and Teri Mc Cusker 0-1 each.
