Loughmacrory Defeat Killyman To Qualify For Quarter Finals
Sunday 28.08.2011

The first game of the afternoon is Loughmacrory versus Killyman and it is the St Mary’s who made the brighter start leading 0-4 to 0-1 after ten minutes with Michael Donnelly responsible for most of his side’s scores through frees. Goalkeeper Patrick O’Hagan kept his team in front with a brilliant save from Loughmacrory’s Enda Ward when a goal seemed a sure thing and will eleven minutes gone Killyman were three ahead. However from then until the break it was all Loughmacrory as a Gussie Mc Aleer goal and a couple of fine points from Stephen Donaghy put them ahead for the first time. Just before the short whistle a further Loughmacrory point from John Gallagher put them in total control and there was further bad news for Killyman when defender Sean Donnelly picked up a second yellow card and the St Mary’s were reduced to fourteen men. Half time score Loughmacrory 1-6, Killyman 0-5.
The start of the second half saw things get even better from Loughmacrory as Southampton bound Stevie Donaghy helped himself to a couple of goals, the second which was a cheeky chip over the keeper. The St Teresa’s led 3-8 to 0-8 at one stage with Donaghy getting 2-3 for his team. Killyman responded with a goal and a couple of points of their own and with less than five minutes remaining the scoreline read Loughmacrory 3-9, Killyman 1-10. Indeed it was Loughmacrory who finished the stronger adding a further two points in the closing five minutes to advance to the quarters on a score of 3-11 to 1-10.
