Teenager Pearse McDonald’s 22nd minute goal, was the catalyst for Loughmacrory, to defeat parish rivals Carrickmore before a huge crowd in Loughmacrory.
Up until McDonald’s goal, league leaders Carrickmore had looked comfortable leading 7-3. The game opened with both sides raising orange flags through Cathaoir Gallagher and Cormac Munroe but three frees from Lorcan McGarrity and scores from Mattie McNally and Tiernan McGarrity had eased Carrickmore in front.
A fabulous ten minutes of football before the interval saw Loughmacrory turn the game on its head. McDonald finished superbly with a shot across Ryan McGarrity to find the net before raising a white flag to level. A brace of points from Aodhan Donaghy and two pointers from Pauric Meenagh and Cathal Donaghy saw the County champions lead 1-11 to 0-7.
An early second half goal from Cathaoir Gallagher following a lovely Aodhan Donaghy pass, effectively ended the contest and although the accuracy of Lorcan McGarrity reduced the deficit points from Gareth Donaghy, Pauric Meenagh and Shane Dobbs always maintained their advantage.
A well deserved victory for Loughmacrory and a blow to Carrickmore’s hopes of the league title, but still plenty to play for with six games remaining
