Tyrone travelled to the Louth Centre of Excellence on Saturday for their second Leo Murphy Cup clash and after a performance that lacked cohesion suffered a three point defeat losing 1-7 to 0-7.

Louth played wind assisted in the first half and the elements certainly worked in favour of the home side as they hit 1-5 over the course of the opening thirty minutes. Conall McCaul with the goal and Carl Gillespie and Ciaran McMahon among their points. Tyrone registered a single first half score four minutes before the break from the boot of Cathal Colton but such was the strength of the wind that they struggled to get the ball to the inside line throughout the first half and when they did the Red Hands finishing let them down.

As often happens the wind eased after the restart Louth recorded two early points inside the first three minutes of the half through Gillespie and McCaul. Tyrone continued to struggle to break down the resolute home defence before full back Matthew Mc Cusker ventured forward to score with forty minutes on the clock.

Louth were reduced to fourteen players courtesy of a black card but Tyrone failed to take advantage of the extra man. Several free kicks were missed and in a real mixup in the Louth goalmouth a shot from Ethan Jordan was cleared off the line. A goal at that stage would have given Tyrone real momentum but as it was points from Liam Gray, Neil Kilpatrick and Cormac Quinn were not enough to deny the Wee County team a deserved win.
