Kevin Lynch’s are this evening celebrating capturing the Ulster Minor Club Championship after they overcame a gallant Eire Og side in Ballinascreen. It’s only a second ever title after this level for the Derry men, the last coming in 2001.

The margin of victory at the final whistle was some eleven points but the champions found Eire Og a troublesome outfit to shake off and with three quarters of the game gone they only led by a single point.

Lynch’s got off to the perfect start in this contest and led 1-2 to 0-0 after just four minutes on the clock. The goal came inside the opening 15 seconds as Eoin McKeever latched on to a loose ball on the ground and finished to the Eire Og net. That score was followed up by points from Emmett McKenna and Tiarnan McHugh. Eire Og grasped the nettle quickly and by the 17th minutes they were level on the scoreboard. Ruairi Slane and captain Oran McKee both recorded points before Eire Og benefited from a goal following a goalkeeping error after a 60 metre strike from the impressive Jarlath Kerr.

Two Richie Mullan frees either side of a brilliant point from Arnoldous Macidulkas concluded the first half scoring. Kevin Lynch’s 1-4 Eire Og 1-3.

The opening minutes of the third quarter were dominated by Lynch’s during which time they hit Eire Og four points to one. Eire Og refused to go away and when the ball fell at the feet of Rian McCaul he first timed it to the Lynch’s net to leave the Carrickmore side just a point behind. 1-8 to 2-4.

That unfortunately was as good as it got for Eire Og. Kevin Lynch’s hit 0-11 and conceded just a single point in the final fifteen minutes. Six of those points came from the stick of Richie Mullan as he finished the game with 0-9. Cahir Higgins, Tiarnan McHugh and Eoin Cassidy also added points from play with the only Eire Og score coming from a 56th minute free from Ruairi Slane. Final Score – Kevin Lynch’s 1-19 Eire Og 2-5.
