St Macartan’s 2-15

Errigal Ciaran 0-6

There was no stopping the “Mighty Macartan’s” as they confirmed their dominance of club football in Tyrone with a 8th league title in a row and a remarkable four in a row of league and championship doubles. Errigal Ciaran remained in touch during the opening 36 minutes but the loss of Aine Canavan and a quick brace of St Macartan’s goals effectively ended their challenge.

Errigal must be wondering what it will take to end the St Macartan’s grip on this division one title and they would not be alone in scratching their heads as once again Ryan Mc Menamin’s side upped the tempo and turned the screw to manufacture a comfortable 15 point winning margin at the end. A brand of youth and experience once again creating the winning formula.

Early points from Geardine Mc Ginley and Emily Loughran gave Errigal an excellent platform  however Tara Meabh Mc Carroll responded with a long range Macartan’s point and the sides were level as Joline Donaghy eased the ball over the bar from a close range free with eight minutes gone.

Championship top scorer Chloe Mc Caffrey and Colleen Mc Quaid launched two great Macartans points while Errigal keeper Eimear Corrigan was on hand to make a fine save at the feet of Paula Donnelly. Boosted by that Errigal pushed up the park with Mc Ginley and Maria Canavan points drawing the sides level again although Mc Caffrey and Cathy Maguire tagged on late first half points to leave Macs a point to the good.

Maguire kicked on with a point moments after the restart and within six minutes she was on hand to drive home a crucial goal. A high ball in from Mc Caffrey was not claimed cleanly by goalkeeper Corrigan and the veteran attacker was in the right place at just the right time as she pounced on the opportunity.

Canavan did add an Errigal point on the 42nd minute but that score really marked the end of their challenge. Áine Canavan was injured and as Slaine Mc Carroll, Niamh Mc Girr and the impressive Grainne Mc Kenna kept things tight at the back Errigal could not force a way through.

Maguire and Paula Donnelly landed points before Donaghy got on the end of a rebound and steered the ball past Corrigan, once again Mc Caffrey’s high ball causing problems. Lynda Forde and Mc Caffrey knocked over points with further scores from Mc Caffrey, Paula Donnelly, Shauna Mc Girr and Michaela Woods closing out the game.

St Macartan’s Scorers: Cathy Maguire 1-3, Joline Donaghy 1-1, Chloe Mc Caffrey 0-4, Paula Donnelly 0-2, Lynda Forde, Colleen Mc Quaid, Shauna Mc Girr, Michaela Woods and Tara Meabh Mc Carroll 0-1 each

Errigal Ciaran Scorers: Maria Canavan 0-3, Geardine Mc Ginley 0-2, Emily Loughran 0-1
