Macartans Complete The Double

A goal after forty seconds from Cathy Donnelly sent Macartans on their way to a league and championship double as they defeated a very talented Aodh Ruadh side 1-11 to 0-11 at Tattyreagh on Sunday.
That score separated the sides for the remainder of the game as Macs used all their guile and experience to keep their opponents at arm’s length for the duration of the game.
The teams traded points throughout the opening fifteen minutes with Chloe Mc Caffrey and Slaine Mc Carroll on target for Macs while Meabh Mc Gleenan, Aoife Mc Gahan and Emma Jane Gervin accounted for Aodh Ruadh’s opening three points.
Both sides added three points apiece during the remainder of the opening half with Aoife Mc Gahan converting three frees for Aodh Ruadh and player of the match Niamh Mc Girr hitting two fine scores for Macartans. The winners reached the break in front by three.
A point each from Cathy and Joline Donnelly inside the opening two minutes of the half gave Macs the perfect start. Aoife Mc Gahan converted two further frees for her team before Chloe Mc Caffrey (2) and Cathy Donnelly found the target to put Macartans 1-11 to 0-8 in front with eight minutes of normal time remaining.
The Clogher Valley side appeared home and hosed but Aodh Ruadh finished strongly to hit the last three scores of the game. However they could never quite manage to close the gap created by Cathy Donnelly’s first minute goal and Macartans celebrated a hard earned but well deserved league and championship double.
