Macartans and Killeeshil met on Friday night at Healy Park to determine the destination of the Pat Fahy and Co Solicitors Division One league title.  Macartans were going for nine league titles in a row while Killeeshil were hoping to mark their return to senior football with a league crown.

The hoops began well with Grainne Rafferty, Louise Kelly and Catherine Mc Cusker causing problems for the Macs defence in the opening exchanges. Rafferty opened her team’s account with a second minute point but Macartans responded like champions with a move that went the length of the pitch before Chloe Mc Caffrey hit the net. The pace and exchanges were intense with both sides asking questions of the other. Rafferty and Mc Caffrey swapped points before a fortuitous Killeeshil goal eight minutes into the half had the underdogs 1-2 to 1-1 in front.

However that was as good as it got for Killeeshil as Macartans showed their quality and hit 3-6 without reply to go in at half time leading 4-7 to 1-2. Goals from Mc Caffrey, Cadhla Mc Carroll and Niamh Mc Girr set their team well on the way to title number nine. The pace of the game in the first half was highly impressive as Cathy Maguire, Shauna Mc Girr, Paula Donnelly, Niamh Mc Girr and Coleen Mc Quaid caused all sorts of problems for an overworked Killeeshil rearguard.

Macartans continued to control the game after the restart with Maura Mc Menamin and Shannon Mc Quaid both working hard to deny the Killeeshil forwards time and space on the ball. Louise Kelly, Rafferty, Emma Mulgrew and Orlagh Mulgrew worked hard to carry the fight to their opponents at every opportunity but Killeeshil lacked the guile and the quality to seriously threaten the Macs defence.

Cathy Maguire, Shauna Mc Girr, Chloe Mc Caffrey hit points after Zoe Loughran had opened the second half scoring. Louise Kelly pointed for Killeeshil but once again Mc Caffrey extended the Macs lead with a superb score. With the game well and truly out of reach Grainne Rafferty hit the net and Zoe Loughran added another point but the Macartans lead was never in danger. Cadhla Mc Carroll completed the scoring for Macs before Grainne Rafferty added two late scores for Killeeshil to leave the final score Macs 4-17 Killeeshil 2-7.
