Saturday was a good day for Tyrone schools in the MacRory Cup with St.Patricks Academy Dungannon and Omagh CBS both picking up wins. Dungannon, who were already assured of a place in the McCormack Cup final, defeated Lurgan 3-9 to 1-12 in Clonmore. Kevin O’Gorman bagged a goal in the first attack and Ryan Devlin also found the net while there were points from Eunan Deeney, Stefan Lavery and Colm McFaul as they held a comfortable 2-5 to -4 lead at the break. The Armagh side staged a comeback in the second half but the Academy always kept their noses in front with Liam Gervin scoring 1-2 and Lavery weighing in with another couple of points.
Meanwhile at the Pearse Ogs ground in Armagh the Brothers picked up the win that they needed to ensure a quarter final place in the New Year when they had an impressive 3-18 to 2-5 win over St.Macartans Monaghan. Niall Donaghy scored a first half goal while John and Cahir McCullagh featured among the points as Omagh CBS led 1-10 to 1-4 at the break. John McCullagh took his personal haul to 1-6 with a second half goal while Ryan Maise also found the net on his way to a 1-3 tally. Cahir McCullagh finished with four points, Cormac O’Neill got a brace with Thomas McCarron, Tom McGrath and Donaghy their other scorers. The Omagh school now play Lurgan on Tuesday in their final group game.
