It was a hugely successful weekend for Tyrone handball at the Ulster Championships in Glengormley, with players from across the county producing a series of outstanding performances and returning home with Ulster titles, runners-up medals and plenty of memorable moments.

The action got underway on Saturday, with Ciarán Corr of Breacach getting Tyrone off to a winning start by claiming the U14 Ulster title following an excellent contest against Max Finnegan. Ciarán produced some superb handball throughout the final to secure the first Ulster title of the weekend for Tyrone.

There was further success for Breacach as Niall Kerr claimed the Golden Masters title after defeating clubmate Shane Hazlett in an all-Breacach final. Following two excellent games between the clubmates, Niall eventually emerged victorious to take the Ulster honours.

Lucy McCullagh of Loughmacrory, representing Team Ireland, was also in outstanding form in the Minor competition. Lucy battled her way through a thrilling tie-breaker against Clíona McGinley to secure another Ulster title.

Anthony Morris of Greencastle produced a determined display to reach the 16 & Under final after battling through a tough semi-final. Anthony continued to fight all the way against Team Ireland representative Kevin McGrath, eventually finishing a highly creditable Ulster runner-up.

Sunday brought further success for Tyrone, with Michelle Warren of Breacach leading the charge. Following a thrilling semi-final against Michelle McCoy, Warren progressed to the final in a repeat of last year’s showdown with Máighréad Ní Riabaigh Ó Dúill. Once again, Warren came out on top to successfully retain her Ulster title.

Breacach’s Jack Darcy also enjoyed an impressive championship, battling his way through to the Men’s Junior B final after producing some outstanding handball throughout the day. Jack fought hard in the final against Conor McAuley but ultimately finished as Ulster runner-up.

Loughmacrory’s Erin Collins also reached the Ladies Junior B final, where she put up a tremendous fight against Niamh McIlwaine. Erin’s excellent run throughout the championship earned her a well-deserved Ulster runners-up medal.

There was another strong performance from Breacach’s Shane O’Neill in the Men’s Masters final. Facing number one seed James Doyle, Shane produced a brilliant display and battled throughout a closely contested final before finishing as Ulster runner-up.

Adding to the weekend’s achievements, Eilise McCrory and Sean Kerr have both progressed through to their respective All-Ireland semi-finals. Everyone at Tyrone Handball wishes them the very best of luck as they prepare for the next stage of their championship campaigns.

Also celebrating success in the Open categories were Loughmacrory players Clare Conway and Paul Donnelly who claimed Open Plate titles after some great games.

Overall, it was a fantastic weekend for Tyrone handball, with players from across the county showcasing their talent, determination and commitment on the provincial stage.
