The 2018 Masters finalists Tyrone got their new campaign underway on Saturday last with a trip to Ballinagh in Cavan.

A panel of 32 players took to the field with the aim of claiming their first 2 points of the new season. On a glorious day it was Cavan that started the brighter and took the lead early on as Tyrone looked nervous and snatched at a few early scoring chances.

Cavan led 4 points to 1 after 16 minutes with a couple of well executed placed balls from their centre half forward.

Tyrone eventually settled into the game with some excellent creative play and wrestled the initiative  back from Cavan with scores from Patton, Gormley and Mc Crory to go in at the half leading 6 points to 4.

The second half started as the first had ended with Tyrone dictating the pace. Sound defensive play kept Cavan at bay who managed only a few points from frees in the 2nd half.

A few free flowing moves from the Red Hands created scores for Gormley, Mc Elroy and Quinn.

Following a sound team performance Tyrone got the season off to a positive start with some solid defending from Eoin Gormley Liam Patterson and a scoring contribution from Damien Gormley to name but a few.

The team management were happy enough with the result but know that further work is needed if the team has aspirations of reaching the latter stages of the competition.
