Butlersbridge was the venue for round 6 of the Masters competition with All Ireland champions Tyrone taking on hosts Cavan and it was the visitors who emerged convincing 3-16 to 0-10 winners to progress to the semi finals of the Dr Mick Loftus Cup.
Tyrone opened the scoring with a Niall Gormley point followed by a brace of points from the boot of Stephen O’Neill. Cavan got a point from play but then a pinpoint pass from O’ Neill found Niall Gormley and he coolly slotted to the net for a 5 point lead. Further points from Conor Gormley and Marty Grimes were followed by another major from Trillick marksman Gormley to put Tyrone in a commanding position. Cavan responded with 2 frees but Tyrone added to their advantage with points from Niall Gormley, Kieran O’Kane, Damian Kelly and Conor Gormley to leave them virtually out of sight at the break leading 2-11 to 0-3.
Damian Kelly opened the scoring in the 2nd half and that was followed by points from Michael Anderson and Grimes. Cavan replied with 2 points of their own but Tyrone after ringing the changes throughout the team hit 3 in a row from Eoin Bradley and 1-1 more from the in form Niall Gormley. Cavan hit the last five scores of the game to give the scoreboard a slightly better look. It was another good team display from Tyrone with steady performances from Aidan Brady, Conor Gormley, Barry Collins and the in form Niall Gormley to mention a few.
