Tyrone Masters are once again through to the semi final of the competition following their sixth round victory over Donegal at Convoy on Wednesday evening but they were made to fight all the way against a talented and well organised Tir Chonaill side.
Before the game the two teams observed a minute’s silence in memory of former Donegal Masters player Charlie Gallagher who passed away last week.
The home team began well and were soon 0-4 to no score ahead with points coming from Benny Quinn, Gerard Mc Brearty and Paddy Mc Nulty. Both sides missed chances before Ollie Mc Creesh got Tyrone going. Kerry Ryan responded for Donegal but Tyrone managed to reach the break on level terms after scores from Mc Creesh, Martin Grimes and Ryan Mc Callion tied the game.
The Red Hands began the second halfstrongly with a brace of Mc Creesh points but the home side responded well to tie the scores again with two Paddy Mc Nulty scores. The sides swapped points again before Tyrone hit four unanswered points with Shane Mallon, Mc Creesh and Martin Anderson on target.
Just when it seemed that Tyrone might push on for victory Donegal hit something of a purple patch to close the gap to one following points from Gerard Mc Brearty and Paddy Mc Nulty (2). Donegal pushed for an equaliser but Tyrone sealed the win when Carl Mc Cabe landed a fine fisted effort to leave two points between them at the end.
