Saturday 11.05.2024
Tyrone 2-19 Donegal 0-9 at Colaiste Ailigh Letterkenny.
Tyrone produced a solid all round team performance today in the first game of the Gaelic Masters qualifiers. Both teams were getting the measure of each other in the early stages and the scores were 2 apiece before Tyrone finally found their feet.
In a demonstration of quality attacking play. The Red Hands pulled clear to lead 1-9 to 0-2 at the short whistle with scores coming from captain Conor Gormley at centre forward, debutants Mark Donnelly, Martin Taggart and Leo Meenan. Leo marked his first competitive outing with an exquisite penalty conversion only for the ref to order a retake. So up he stepped again and placed it to the other side of the keeper.
Tyrone were well on top at this stage with Emmet Mc Fadden scoring a couple of quality points before the half time whistle sounded.
The second half began in much the same manner as the first half ended with Tyrone stretching their lead further with more scores from Gormley, Donnelly, Meenan, Johnny O’Neill and a major from Martin Taggart.
There were Impressive contributions from replacements Barry Collins,Peter Clarke and Michael Anderson with a couple of well taken points and a fantastic score following a marauding run from corner back Damian Mc Devitt. That was one of the highlights of the game closely followed by a beauty from Mark Donnelly with the outside of the right boot.
Donegal rallied for a few scores late on as Tyrone took the foot off the gas. Damian Kelly kicked a point late on for Tyrone to close out. As stated a solid team performance from every man that took the field with the management more than pleased with how the game went.
