Mc Crory Holding His Own In The Corner

A close look at the image related to this story shows Aidan Mc Crory carrying the ball beyond Tyrone full forward Stevie O’Neill. Now knowing the Clan na Gael man’s hunger and work rate it is quite possible he was back helping his defence in the second half as the pressure from Fermanagh began to increase. However anyone who was in Healy Park on Wednesday night must have been hugely impressed with the athleticism and pacy running of Errigal defender Aidan Mc Crory. The corner back was more than willing to venture forward when the chance presented itself and one particular run saw him turn defence into attack and carry the ball almost eighty yards leaving Fermanagh players floundering in his wake. Just as he did on Sunday against Antrim when he created Stevie O’Neill’s goal he showed considerable presence of mind and composure to off load the ball to a forward in a better position.
It is great to see how a player can benefit from a run of games and a boost in confidence. Mc Crory seems to be warming to the challenge of playing county football. Another performance like Wednesday night’s will certainly do his chances of nailing down a regular starting place on the team when the national league gets under way in February.
