St Joseph’s Coalisland travelled across to Owenbeg this morning to take on Loreto from Milford in the Mc Devitt Cup Final and came away with the title following a nail-biting one point win on a score of 4-10 to 4-9.

The Coalisland school played into the breeze in the opening half and after a hard working first thirty minutes reached the break leading 2-3 to 1-4 with their goals coming from a Ronan Coney penalty before the same player rounded off a superb team move to flick the ball to the net.

The wind eased after the break as both teams produced some high quality football with the result in the balance right up to the end but the Coalisland lads held on for the victory with their second half goals scored by Shea Hamilton and Ronan Coney. Goalkeeper Daniel Mc Ateer , defenders Mark Duffin and Shane Hughes as well as midfielder Conor Talbot were all outstanding for the Tyrone school.

On an historic day for the Coalisland school, which is Co-Ed with just over four hundred students in total, St. Joseph’s scorers were as follows: Ronan Coney 3-1, Shea Hamilton 1-2, Rhys Donnelly 0-2, Rian Nelis 0-2, Ryan Quinn 0-1, Jason Morgan 0-1.
