Mc Girr Bros Quarries Division 3 Wrap Up
Saturday 03.08.2024
The match of the day on Saturday in Division 3 took place at Aghaloo where the home side hosted their chief rivals for league honours, Drumquin. This was a tense and highly competitive encounter that was played with intense physicality and at breakneck speed throughout. With both defences on top scoring chances were scarce but the teams reached the break tied at 0-6 apiece as the Tones came from two behind at the short whistle to level the game with points from Finnen Patterson and Frankie Mc Alynn. Aghaloo failed to score again until eighteen minutes into the second half and by that stage Drumquin led 1-10 to 0-6. Points from Sean Mc Donagh, Patterson and Oisin Mc Menamin added to an own goal from Aghaloo had the away team seven clear. However Aghaloo hit the next four scores unanswered from Niall Henderson, Conor Mullan and Niall Mc Elroy and Drumquin began to look nervous. A steadying score from Patterson on twenty five minutes stretched the lead to four again. Aghaloo refused to give up and came close to hitting the net in the closing five minutes but a brace of agonising wides was all they had to show. Points from James O’Hara and Niall Mc Elroy reduced the deficit but scores from substitute Mattie Mc Dermott , Oisin Gormley and Sean Mc Dermott sealed the win and took Drumquin to the top of the table.
Final score: Drumquin 1-14, Aghaloo 0-12
