Mc Shane Leads The Way

Ruaidh are through to the last eight of the Connollys of Moy Intermediate Championship after they enjoyed a fairly comfortable win over an Aghaloo side that was relegated from Division Two following this defeat. While this was a really good team performance from the north Tyrone side the kicking accuracy from Cathal Mc Shane played a huge role in deciding the outcome of the game.

The flame haired attacker had a penalty saved, kicked one wide and hit the post in the second half but still managed to finish as top scorer with 1-18 to his name after an exhibition of shooting.

The winners began strongly and with Mc Shane and Tony Devine leading the way were soon on top on the score board. James O Hara hit the first point of the day for Aghaloo but Eoghan Roes hit seven points without reply with ten minutes on the clock to take charge. Mc Shane, Damien Mc Crossan, Adam Coyle and Tony Devine continued to ask questions of the Aghaloo defence but in fairness to the border men they battled hard for every ball.

Oliver Sherry gave Aghaloo hope when he capitalised on a half chance in the Eoghain Ruaidh  defence to hit the first goal of the game. That score rattled Owen Roes but helped Aghaloo settle and a two pointer from Jody Mc Glone had the gap down to three points. Mc Shane fired over point number seven but Aghaloo corner forward Conor Quinn hit his team’s second goal of the match after twenty two minutes and the gap was down to a single score.

Jason Mulgrew in the Aghaloo goals made a superb save from Tony Devine before Mc Shane was awarded a penalty following a foul on the big full forward.

Mc Shane took the kick himself but had his penalty saved by goalkeeper Mulgrew who was doing his best to keep his side in the contest. Both sides added a brace of points each as they reached the break with Owen Roes leading 0-13 to 2-6.

Aghaloo began the second half on top with scores from Tiernan Donnelly, Darragh Mc Anespie and Harry Mc Ginn to lead 2-9 to 0-14. Owen Roes continued to play at pace and a two pointer from Cathal Mc Shane had them in front again. Conor Mullen levelled things with a fine point before points from Devine and Aidan Hegarty put Owen Roes two clear.

Aghaloo were reduced to fourteen men following a second yellow card and from then until the end, a point from Gerard Devine and 1-5 from Mc Shane sealed the win and a place in the quarter finals for the Roes.
