McGeary Boost

Tyrone have received a major boost with the news that Kieran McGeary’s knee injury isn’t as bad as first feared.

McGeary was in a lot of pain as he was stretchered off on Sunday in the early stages of his club Pomeroy’s sudden death relegation defeat away to Aghyaran. It was initially feared that he may have damaged his cruciate ligament but a scan on Tuesday revealed that his ACL is intact.

He has damaged his medial ligaments and is therefore unlikely to feature in the McKenna Cup for the Red Hands but no doubt he will be targeting their opening National League division one encounter away to Kerry on the last weekend of January.

McGeary captained Tyrone to the All Ireland U21 title in 2015 and has made a major impact since Mickey Harte brought him into the senior panel. He scored the last point in the 2016 Ulster final win over Donegal, adding another Provincial senior medal twelve months later and was a real driving force as Tyrone defied the odds to reach the All Ireland decider back in September when they lost out to four in a row Dublin.
