Aidan McSorley had an almost faultless performance in Tattyreagh on Saturday afternoon as Newtownstewart overcome Brocagh in the opening round of the LLC Tyrone JFC. Bar a superb penalty save from Brocagh goalkeeper Peter Maguire, McSorley had an excellent afternoon finishing with 1-9.

The opening quarter of the game was dominated by Newtownstewart and by the 16th minute they were 1-5 to 0-3 to the good. The opening point of the game calm from Niall Mayse and it was quickly followed up by three scores from McSorley, two of those coming from the dead ball. Brocagh responded through Donal Robinson, Colum McFall and Mickey Hughes before McSorley hit the net. The goal stunned Brocagh into action and it was they who finished the half the stronger kicking four points without reply from Hughes, McFall and Ciaran Campbell. Half Time – Newtownstewart 1-5 Brocagh 0-7.

Brocagh started the second half where they finished the first as Mickey Hughes and Owen Canavan found the range again to take a 0-9 to 1-5 lead. The game ebbed and flowed from there to the 52nd minute with both sides swapping points before Calum McFall squeezed home Brocagh’s goal to leave the Emmett’s 1-10 to 1-7 ahead. That goal would prove to be Brocagh’s last score until the last few seconds of the game. Newtownstewart asserted control of the contest smashing over seven points, four of those from McSorley, and one apiece from Niall Mayse, Turlough McNamee and Eoin Devine. The last score of the game was a point from Broach’s Brendan McKeever. Final Score – Newtownstewart 1-14 Brocagh 1-11
