Ulster Minor Camogie Shield Quarter Final
Tyrone 1-9 Cavan 2-3
Tyrone 1-9 Cavan 2-3
Tyrone minors travelled to Cavan for their Ulster semi-final in what was arguably the stronger side of the draw. The home side began strongly and ace forward Alanna Brady hit the back of the net before following that up with another score before Tyrone had settled.
Tyrone midfielders Oilibhia Farley and Beth Jones created scoring chances but a determined Cavan defence, including a very talented full back Emma Mulvaney, were unwilling to concede. Defender Molly O’Hanlon was hugely impressive but she was powerless to prevent a free from Bronagh Moohan which saw Tyrone‘s first point on the scoreboard.
It took some excellent defending from Aoife Gildernew and Grace Daly to deny Cavan several scores and Tyrone were rewarded for their tenacity with a goal from Shauna Keyes following a Lucy Conroy pass. Áine Cunningham made several superb catches to help keep Cavan at bay. It was a real team effort, with forward Emma Conroy moving cleverly before taking a score from a tight angle.
Tyrone went into the break ahead by the narrowest of margins. The second half was a more physical affair and with a place in the final at stake the exchanges became tense. Tyrone hurled hard and fair and with their bench in fine form they restricted Cavan to a single point in the entire second half and made it through to the final in two week’s time.
