A sun kissed Clanabogan was the venue on Friday evening for the Grade Three Minor Championship semi finals that saw Tattyreagh and Beragh qualify for the the final. The Tatts enjoyed a comprehensive win over their near neighbours Fintona on a final score of 3-18 to 3-07. The winners started strongly with John Mc Aleer, Peadar Mullan and Jarlath Mc Donagh on target. When midfielder Johnny Harkin finished to the net for his side’s second goal eighteen minutes into the opening half it looked like it was game over.

However Fintona showed considerable resolve and with Sonny Mc Donagh and Cathal Starrs leading the recovery they had reduced the gap to three points as the game entered the final ten minutes. Tattyreagh steadied the ship though with a superb goal from James Darcy and they eased to victory and a place in the final.

The second semi final saw Beragh and Gortin serve up a superb game that required extra time to finally separate the teams.

Gortin dominated the opening half with Eoin Mc Garvey, Pearse Hollywood, Ciaran Brolly and Shane Mc Kenna leading the line as they reached the break 2-5 to 0-6 ahead. Beragh bounced back with Nathan Grimes, Johnny Woods and Ben Mc Sorley starring for the Red Knights.

Both teams had opportunities to win the game in normal time but several great chances were spurned before the final whistle sounded with the teams level on a score line of  Gortin 3-9, Beragh 2-12.

With a place in the county final at stake there was no let up in the pace during extra time as both sides fought for every ball. Gortin looked the side most likely early on bit when Grimes found the net three minutes into the second half of extra time Beragh sensed victory. Ben Mc Sorley, Eoghan Grimes  and their defensive colleagues produced a stirring final six or seven minutes as the Red Knights held out to win a highly entertaining game 3-18 to 4-12.
