Cavan 2-4 Tyrone 1-21

If truth be told this game was over at half time and the Red Hand rarely looked troubled by the Cavan men in Breffni Park on Saturday afternoon. Tyrone had an eight point lead before Cavan registered their first score through Oisin Smith in the 12th minute. By that state four different Tyrone players were on the scoreboard. Matthew F Daly landing two points, Caolan McKee, Tomas Gallen and Finbar Quinn adding three more points and Ciaran McCrystal finding the Cavan net in the 7th minute.

Three more Tyrone points from Aodhan Corry, Ruairi O’Neill and Caolan McKee on target for the visitors ahead of a Jay Graham free in the 17th minute. It was Eglish man Matthew F Daly that got Tyrone’s next score in the 21st minute just before Jay Graham responded again for Cavan from the dead ball for Cavan’s third and final point of the opening half. Two more Finbarr Quinn points and points from Logan O’Connor and Matthew C Daly concluded the first half scoring. Half Time: Cavan 0-3 Tyrone 1-13

Tyrone extended the lead to eleven points two minutes into the second half thanks to a Caolan McKee point from a 13 metre free and Cavan responded sixty seconds later as Jay Graham hooked one over the crossbar off the right boot.  That score was cancelled out in the 38th minute with Charlie Meenan kicking a free.

A Jay Graham goal for Cavan in 41st minute might well have sparked a comeback for the Breffni men but three quick fire points Charlie Meenan and two from Cahir McKeown restored Tyrone’s dominance to keep the gap at fourteen points. Cavan substitute Jack Forde hammered home Cavan’s second goal in the 53rd minute but Tyrone had the final say rattling off three points of their own, two from Cormac Darcy either side of a Vincent Gormley point.

Final Score: Cavan 2-4 Tyrone 1-21
