Tyrone Minors 100% run in the Ulster Minor League came to an end this afternoon in Convoy when Donegal came from behind to defeat the Red Hands 1-11 to 2-6.
The home side were good value for their win having recovered from conceding two goals in the opening thirty minutes while failing to convert at least four good goal chances themselves. In centre back Tony Mc Clenaghan, midfielders Mc Gonigle and Harley Donegal had the most impressive players on the field. This trio dominated possession throughout the first half and their strong running had the Tyrone defence in trouble all afternoon.
A brace of points from Pauric Mc Anenly and a score from wing back James Darcy put Tyrone three points to two clear midway through the opening half. Shortly after that Jonah Lafferty pounced on a defensive error by the home team to rattle the net and when Fintan Mc Clure added a second goal just before half time the visitors found themselves six in front.
That six point lead at the break flattered Tyrone and immediately after the restart Donegal set about closing the gap. Points from Campbell, Mc Carroll and Brennan were followed by a goal from half forward Cian Mulligan. Donegal were now level and had the wind plus momentum. Tyrone struggled to win possession in and around midfield with the result being that Donegal were constantly on the front foot. The Tyrone defence were under enormous pressure at times but with David Mulgrew dropping deep to help out at the back they managed to remain in front until twelve minutes from the end.
Once the home side hit the front they looked comfortable and eased to a 1-11 to 2-6 win. Next up for Tyrone is a meeting with neighbours Fermanagh next Saturday.
