Minor Hurlers Claim Celtic Challenge Title

Tyrone minor hurlers travelled to Ballyshannon on Saturday for their Jerome O’Leary Cup final clash with Sligo.

The old saying that a good start is half the battle certainly proved to be right in this case as early goals from Liam Griffiths and the outstanding Shea Monroe settled Tyrone and gave them the belief they could compete against a highly fancied Sligo side.

A third Tyrone goal helped them reach the break 3-4 to 1-7 ahead. However Sligo continued to ask questions of the Tyrone defence as they set about reducing the deficit and drew level on forty one minutes. Tyrone dug dep and when goal number five arrived they pushed for the win and took the title on a final score of Tyrone 5-13 Sligo 3-13.

It was a proud Tyrone man Ciaran Mc Laughlin who presented the Jerome O’Leary Cup to a delight Tyrone team.
