Tyrone minor hurlers lost to Monaghan in their final league game but still qualified for the league final which will be played at a Tyrone venue next Saturday. Declan Bennett’s team played with little or no intensity today with their performance not being helped by the fact that they had already qualified for the final. Monaghan were the better side throughout but Ciaran Mc Crudden’s goal ensured that Tyrone led at the break 1-4 to 0-6. Others to get target today were Matthew Mulgrew, Jack Ryan, and Dwyer Marshall.
The Farney lads continued to dominate possession and create the better chances and after drawing level four minutes into the second half edged ahead and pushed for victory. They were deserved 0-15 to 1-7 winners and Tyrone can have no complaints. The Red Hands however will be hoping for a huge improvement in performance next week and they have lots to work on when the return to training in Dungannon on Thursday night. Their first touch and man to man marking were poor today. Similar lapses next Saturday will see only one result.
