Tyrone defeated Roscommon 3-14 to 1-16 at Garvaghy on Saturday afternoon in their first round of their Celtic Challenge. The sides were level at the break 0-9 apiece after a close and competitive opening thirty minutes. Corey Bell, Aidan Woods, Shea Munroe, Francie Hurson, Liam Griffiths and Aodhan Molloy were among the points for Tyrone while Roscommon’s main first half marksmen were midfielder Barry Killion and full forward Ciaran Mulry.

Roscommon began the second half with an early Mulry goal but Tyrone’s response was instant as Aidan Woods waltzed through the defence and finished to the net to level the scores. Aodhan Molloy added a brace of points before Tyrone pulled further away with goals from Aidan Woods and Shea Munroe.

Tyrone looked comfortable at this stage but Roscommon showed character as Killion and Mulry rattled over points. Unfortunately for the Rossies although they managed to reduce the deficit time ran out on them and the home side emerged deserving winners.
