Castlederg defeated Gortin on Sunday afternoon at Sigerson Park Strabane to claim the Grade 3 Minor League title. After a high scoring and hugely entertaining contest between two very talented sides the Derg emerged victorious and deservedly claimed the title on a score line of 5-15 to 3-12.

Right from the off this game had everything with pace and intensity throughout. Gortin played wind assisted in the first half but it was the Derg who led at the break with Diego Lara, Oisin Harvey, Shea Leonard, Dylan Mc Crory and Oliver James all to the fore for the eventual winners. First half goals from Oliver James and Corin Mc Connell helped them reach the break in a strong position leading 2-5 to 0-7.

Gortin had plenty of outstanding players of their own with goalkeeper Darragh Ellis, Darragh Mc Carron, Shea Conway, Cillian Ellis, Ultan Mc Connell and Lucas Mc Garvey prominent throughout.

Lucas Mc Garvey and Cillian Ellis got things going with early points for Gortin. However the movement and physicality of Corin Mc Connell was creating havoc in the Gortin defence and the Derg looked dangerous in every attack. Goals from Oliver James and Mc Connell and points from James and Oisin Lynch helped the Derg build a useful lead going off at the break.

The second half continued to be very competitive but the Derg looked the team most likely. Early second half points from Mc Connell and a goal from Diego Lara stretched the Derg lead. Just when it looked like the Derg were going to pull away back came Gortin. Cillian Ellis hit the net and Ultan Mc Connell added another goal as Gortin went for broke.

With time running out both teams pushed for scores and created numerous chances. Points from Eoghan Bradley and Oisin Harvey increased the lead as goals from Lara and Harvey appeared to have sealed the win for the Derg. Lucas Mc Garvey added a brace for Gortin before Eoghan Bradley and Ashton Haynes completed the scoring but couldn’t deny Castlederg a well deserved win.

Final Score: Castlederg 5-15, Gortin 3-12
