Minor League Wrap Up
Tuesday 24.02.2015
The minor league began last Sunday but it’s fair to say that it got off to a whimper with a number of games not played due to weather conditions, most of those postponements coming in the West of the County. Dungannon welcomed defending champions Moortown to O’Neill Park and the Clarkes took the spoils on a 0-10 to 1-4 scoreline. Patrick Molloy scored half of Dungannon’s tally on a day when they had good performances from Dalaigh Jones, Mark McKearney and Oran Mallon. Jack McGuigan bagged the only goal of the game for the Loughshore lads.
Derrylaughan got off to a winning start as well when they beat Parish neighbours Clonoe. Paul Donnelly scored 2-3 for the Kevin Barrys, Tomas Carney notched five points, Conor Donnelly got three with Caolan Corr and James Duffy also on the scoresheet. Donaghmore played host to Ardboe at Father Devlin Park and a strong first half display laid the foundations for their victory on a 0-12 to 0-10 scoreline. Played in dreadful conditions, Donaghmore played with the breeze in the first half and quickly got into their stride with the impressive Caolan Mulgrew dominating proceedings around the middle and helping himself to four points in the first half, giving Donaghmore a seven point lead, 11-4 at the break.
Ardboe quickly turned things around in the second half with another Caolan, this time Caolan Mallaghan dominating the play, finishing with an impressive seven point tally with a missed penalty the only negative in what was an otherwise brilliant performance. Conor Duffy, Stefan O’Hare, Shea Quinn all chipped in with a point from play and gave Donaghmore more than a match and Donaghmore breathed a huge sigh of relief at the final whistle as Caolan Mulgrew scored what was their only score in the second half in the last action of the half. The winners’ scores came from Caolan Mulgrew [5], Sean McCaul [2], Brannon Molloy [2], Dermy McCann, Shane McKernan and Dylan McKay. Ardboe were best served by Manus Teague, Conall and Odhran Devlin, Eoin Lynn, Caolan Mallaghan and Paddy Sheehy.
Urney lost out to Omagh B with Gavin Elliot [2-2], Daryl Maxwell [2], Jake Lafferty [1] and Liam Langan [1] the scorers for the St.Columbas on the day. Killeeshil travelled to Cookstown and came away with a 2-8 to 1-9 win. Pascal Donaghy [5], Liam Hughes [1-2] and Jason Doyle [1-1] were the St.Marys scorers on the day. Dylan Coyle took some fine scores for the Father Rocks on a day when he and Ryan Mullan both played well for their team.
