Donegal 0-12 0-10 Tyrone

A severely depleted Tyrone minor side travelled to Donegal on Saturday with a reduced squad due to injury and school commitments for their opening minor league fixture away to Donegal. The home side featured several players from last year’s championship battle which was settled by penalties.

The lively Conor McCahill opened the scoring with the first of his three points. Both sides enjoyed periods of domination with possession but Donegal’s attack was more effective and deservedly led 0-7 to 0-3 at half time with all Tyrone’s scoring coming from Aidan Hegarty’s free taking.

A more purposeful Tyrone got the opening score of the second half but further points from McCahill and Callaghan extended Donegal’s lead. Liam Corry took over the free taking duties as Tyrone sought to reduce the deficit. Corry was to finish with 0-4 and despite points from Muldoon and Concannon, Tyrone could never get level. It was fitting that the game’s best player Shane Gallagher got the final score as Donegal held on for a two point victory.

The Tyrone management will be delighted with the second half revival and will get another opportunity to look at their players with a home game against Cavan next Saturday.
