Tyrone 3-10 1-5 Monaghan

Tyrone have qualified for the final of this year’s Ulster Minor shield. A dominant final twenty minutes saw the home side score 2-4 without reply to ease into the final against Armagh.

A blustery Garvaghey played host to the game with a difficult cross field playing its part throughout.

Cain Rafferty opened the scoring for Monaghan but converted frees from Lorcan McMurray, and Peter Colton gave Tyrone a lead they were never to lose. A classy Sean Corry goal extended Tyrone’s advantage in the eighth minute but Monaghan responded with a goal of their own through Rafferty with 14 minutes played.

Three further scores from McMurray gave Tyrone a three point advantage at the short whistle. However, they were guilty of spurning several goal opportunities.

Early second half points from Kearns and Treanor brought the Farney men right back into the contest. These were cancelled out by a brace of Peter Colton frees and when the recently introduced Shea Munroe found the net with his first touch the game was effectively over. Liam McGeary also found the net with five minutes remaining to seal victory.
