Tyrone under 20 hurlers entertained Armagh in their opening fixture of the Ulster under 20 league at Garvaghy on Saturday afternoon.

After a close first half the Orchard County led at the break 3-3 to 2-3. Ronan Mc Alister hit 2-1 during the first half while Jake Toal (1-0) and Lee Murtagh (0-2) were also on target. Turlough Mullin bagged two goals for the Red Hands while AJ Mc Cann and Ruairi O’Sullivan were also among the points.

Tyrone restricted Armagh to four second half points while hitting 1-5 themselves to take the win. The Red Hands second half scores came from Ayaz Taggart (1-0), Ruairi O’Sullivan (0-1) while AJ Mc Cann, Conor Kerr, Fionn Corey, and Eoin Mullan contributed (0-1) each.

Final score : Tyrone 3-8, Armagh 3-7

Tyrone Under 20 footballers travelled to Meath for the opening round of the Leo Murphy Cup and came away with a creditable draw after a competitive hour’s football.

Ruairi Canavan hit five first half points while vice captain Sean O’Donnell contributed 0-1 as the team trailed by one at the break 1-4 to 0-6.

With little between the teams after the restart scores remained hard to come by. Canavan and O’Donnell hit points to tie the game with nine minutes to go.

Points from Lorcan Mc Garrity and Canavan put Tyrone two up but Meath finished the game strongly to hit the last two scores of the game to earn a draw.

Final score : Tyrone 0-12, Meath 1-9
