Mixed Results For Tyrone Schools In MacRory Cup

There was mixed results for Tyrone Schools against Monaghan opponents in the last sixteen of the MacRory Cup on Thursday afternoon. Omagh CBS advanced to the quarter finals when beating Patrician High Carrickmacross in Fintona but St.Joseph’s Donaghmore bowed out after losing to Our Lady’s Castleblaney.
Omagh dominated the first half to lead 0-8 to 0-2 at the break thanks to scores from Thomas Meenan, Harley Patton, Diarmuid Martin, Jake Donnelly and Paudie Goodman. On the restart Carrickmacross came fighting back with points from Cian Rafferty, Tom Maguire and Michael Burke before orange flags from Peter and Oran Connolly left them level.
Fergal McEneaney then put the visitors in front only for Martin to equalise and after Rafferty had edged Carrickmacross clear Meenan levelled matters. With time running out a second point of the afternoon for Ryan Baxter put Omagh back in front before substitute Vincent Lowry sealed victory with a 59th minute goal as it finished 1-12 to 0-11.
Donaghmore battled hard but they came up short against Castleblaney. The visitors conceeded an own goal early on and that left them on the back foot as they trailed 1-9 to 0-5 at the break, Adam Cushnahan, Caolan McKee and Aidan Quinn with points for St.Josephs and Tristan Nugent and Charlie Mone on target for Our Lady’s. Evan Treanor, Nugent and Tiernan McGeough increased that lead on the restart before St.Joseph’s responded.
A brace of points from Finbar Quinn was followed by another four from the boot of Cushnahan but either side of those scores efforts from Treanor, Nugent and Mone ensured that Castleblaney went through on a 1-16 to 0-12 scoreline.
