Both teams produced an exciting game of football in very trying and exhausting weather conditions. Laura Mc Sorley was once again in top form for Mna Na Deirge scoring her first point of the game in the 1st minute. Despite creating several good chances it took Galbally until the 15th minute before they found the target and trailed 0-3 to 0-1 at that stage.
Marie Harper & Eliza Harvey were on top form and repelled everything Galbally threw at them. Laura Mc Sorley missed a goal chance in the 22nd minute but created a goal for Bridget Coyle soon afterwards with a great pass.
Angie Stevenson produced a player of the match display covering every inch of the park and was involved in everything good that her team mates showed on the night. Francesca Lynch was also on top form and goalkeeper Colleen Gallagher was assured throughout.
Galbally must have thought the Gods had conspired against them as they hit 10 wides in the 1st half & missed a goal chance where the ball came off the cross bar! As the half time whistle sounded the Derg girls led 2-3 to 0-3.
Mna Na Deirge were quick out of the traps after the break with another point from Laura Mc Sorley but Galbally responded with a goal in the 6th minute after Colleen Gallagher had made a great save just before that. Both teams enjoyed periods of possession but failed to convert the majority of them.
Galbally’s bad luck continued when they had a player sin binned in the 17th minute and points followed from Grace Quinn and Leah Lynch who hit a fine score from a 45. Galbally kept “fighting on” with Amy Carberry knocking over two nice points. Co Through the sun and the heat Mna Na Deirge scored ten points in the second half securing their place in the championship semi final : Full time score 2-13 to 1-8 for the Derg girls.
Best for the winners were Angie Stevenson, Laura Mc Sorley, Francesca Lynch & Colleen Gallagher while Shauna Kane & Amy Carberry stood out for Galbally.
