Friday 22.09.2023

Moortown will play Errigal Ciaran in the quarter finals of the Senior championship after the St.Malachys edged past Donaghmore on a 2-8 to 1-10 scoreline at Eoghan Ruadh on Friday night. Brian McLernon proved to be the match winner with a last minute point just when the contest seemed destined for extra time.
The winners had a dream start when Peter Devlin first timed the ball to the net in the 2nd minute after Donaghmore keeper Lorcan Quinn had saved from Blaine Ryan. Conor Quinn, Christopher McGuigan and Ryan Kelly all tagged on points before Johnny McKenna opened Donaghmore’s account. As the half wore on Donaghmore began to come into the game with scores from Brannon Molloy, Shea Hamill and Ronan Donnelly with Shea Lawn on target at the other end of the field. With the sides level GO Man of the match Tarlach Quinn smashed in an injury time goal to leave the Loughshore men 2-5 to 0-8 in front at the break.
The third quarter failed to produce a single score before keeper Quinn nailed a long range free to reduce the deficit. Kelly and the superb Padraig Hagan landed Moortown points but a James McCann goal reduced the deficit to the minimum with time running out. Donnelly then kicked the equaliser before McLernon had the final say with a superb team move resulting in the winning point.
