Moortown are through to the semi final of the grade one minor championship after an impressive win over a fancied Errigal Ciaran side at Ardboe on Wednesday evening.  The St.Malachys established an early lead with Jack McGuigan, James Devlin and Conan McLernon among their points but Pauric McAnenly and Packie O’Neill responded for Errigal before a Ben McDonald goal left it all square at the break, 0-8 to 1-5.

In the opening moments of the second half Padraig McGirr was fouled for an Errigal Ciaran penalty which McAnenly confidently dispatched to the back of the net. Moortown’s response was superb though as they hit 1-4 without reply with McLernon getting their goal and Devlin and Colin McVeigh supplying points. Errigal Ciaran came with a late burst that yielded scores from McAnenly, O’Neill and Cathal Quinn but it was Moortown who advanced on a 1-16 to 2-10 scoreline.

They join Cappagh and Galbally in the semi finals after both those sides accounted for Pomeroy and Omagh respectively on Sunday. The last quarter final takes place at Stewartstown on Friday evening when the Harps take on defending champions and three in a row seeking Ardboe.
