Mouth Guard to Become Compulsory

A motion has been passed this morning at the GAA Congress in Killenard Co Laois that it will now be mandatory to wear a mouth guard in football games and training sessions. 98 per cent of delegates vote in favor of the proposal. The rule comes into effect for senior players from 2014 and from 2013 for players up to and including minor level.

A motion changing the Collective Training/Closed Period was also passed which now means that County Senior teams can resume training according to when they exit the championship…

Exit June; Commence Training November 15th
Exit July; Commence Training December 1st
Exit August; Commence Training December 8th
Exit September; Commence Training December 29th

There shall be a mandatory closed period for games and collective training of all Senior Inter County panels from December 21st to 28th inclusive. The months of November and December shall be closed months for games and collective training for all other Inter County panels.
