Moy 1-18 Moortown 1-11

Grade 3 Minor League Champions Moy made the short trip across to Stewartstown on Monday evening and after a shaky start to the contest came away with a well deserved seven point victory over Moortown.

The loughshore side got off to a dream start in the game learning 1-3 to no score after just nine minutes. Darragh McNally opened the scoring for Moortown in the 1st minute before Liam Lawn hit the net a few seconds later. Mattie Hurl found the target in the 4th minute and when Liam Lawn added another score in the 9th minute Moortown looked on course to overturn the league final result.

Moy got their opening score of the evening in the 10th minutes via Eoin McGeary ahead of a Matthew Conlon free for Moortown. From their to the break it was all Moy. They outscored Moortown 0-5 to 0-1. A free from Ryan McAlary in the 13th minute was followed up by points from Ryan Lavery and Ben Conroy in the 17th and 23rd minutes respectively. Liam Lawn hit Moortown’s last score of the half four minutes from time but Moy carved out the last two points of the half thanks to Liam McGeary and Eoin McGeary to leave the half time score Moortown 1-5 Moy 0-6.

The third quarter was dominated by Moy. They outscored the St Malachy’s men 1-7 to 0-2. Ryan McAlary brought Moy back to within two points right after the restart. Moy Midfielder Isaac Baird collected the ball out on the left and made a superb run cut across the Moortown defence before rifling the ball into the top right and corner of the Moortown net. It was a fantastic finish and one that wrestled the contest well away from Moortown.

Moortown responded in the shape of a Mattie Hurl point from play but that score was cancelled out by another two Moys points from Ryan McAlary and Ryan Lavery. Mattie Hurl added Moortown’s ninth point of the contest seven minutes from time but Moy heaped on the pressure and responded with a brace of scores from Ryan Lavery and Isaac Baird.
