Moy 2-8 0-8 Greencastle

At the second attempt, Moy have set up a meeting with Derrylaughan in this year’s Intermediate championship Decider.

Two second-half goals from Matthew Laverty and Patrick McGeary, both set up by Go Man of the match Ryan Coleman, proved decisive against Greencastle, under the lights at Healy Park.

Ryan Coleman opened the scoring in the first minute, but Greencastle, who were the better side in the opening period, took the lead following scores from Cahir McCullagh and Conor Carson. Greencastle keeper Dara Mc Dermott produced two excellent saves to deny Declan Conroy in the 12th minute and then bravely punch away a dangerous Jamie Coleman centre in the 23rd minute.

With Greencastle having the numerical advantage after Diarmuid McKeown picked up a 21st minute black card, they drove forward a third point from McCullagh and a lovely strike from Dan Tuohey the lead stretched to three. Crucially late scores before the interval from Michael Conroy and Ryan Coleman left it 5-4, at the break.

In such a tight game a goal was going to be a huge score and Matthew Laverty coolly finished in the 34th minute. Sean Conneely responded with a point, and Greencastle almost regained the lead moments later. Tiernan Teague’s effort for a point rebounded off the  upright, but Philip Mallon produced an excellent save to stop Ryan Gumley.

Patrick McGeary and Sean Cavanagh pushed the lead out to three. McGeary ended the contest with ten minutes remaining, a super catch in midfield from Conroy and quick offload to Coleman saw him set up the corner forward to fire to the net.

McGeary brought his tally to 1-2, and Adam Donaghy also registered as Moy ran out worthy six points victors.

The final is scheduled for next Saturday evening as the East Tyrone rivals battle it out for the Paddy Cullen Cup.
